Film Review: Anora
Sean Baker is back again, and he not only can’t seem to miss, he’s taking a somewhat new approach even if his usual trademarks are present.
It’s probably too soon to call his latest Anora a return to his roots, but it has far more in common with Tangerine, the film that launched Baker into mainstream success, than any he’s made since. But Anora is the first film since then which has been marketed as a love story. If it’s somewhat inaccurate, it has all the heartbreak required, and Baker’s humanist approach makes every crack deeply felt.
