Another Reboot Comes to Life in the First Teaser for 'The Mummy'
By Andrea Thompson
We're on a big '90s kick and everything's getting rebooted. So I guess it's kind of amazing that “The Mummy” hasn't been redone before. It's actually been done a few times to say the least, with the 1999 version giving us all the goofy fun of Brendan Fraser before his career went to hell, along with Rachel Weisz in one of her earlier roles. I guess Universal is still doing a reboot of all its monster movies, even if that didn't go so well last time?
The teaser gave us a look at next year's version, with Tom Cruise saying, “She is real,” along with our first glimpse at the titular monster, who, yeah, is female. But don't worry, she's sexy.
“Welcome to the world of gods and monsters,” the teaser proclaims. But both seem singularly unimpressive. The movie will also feature Sofia Boutella, Russell Crowe. Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Annabelle Wallis. Alex Kurtzman will direct.
“The Mummy” will be inflicted on the world June 9, 2017.
